Queensday

Really enjoyed Queensday: Made some money this morning with my son, selling comics and general attic-junk in the largest bootsale/fleemarket/garage-sale that is a basic part of the celebration of the Queen's Mom's birthday. She would have been hundred today! Unfortunately some smeghead (I know, watching too much Red Dwarf) drove his car into a crowd in Apeldoorn, killing 5 people, apparently stating he wanted to kill queen Beatrix. Lots of events throughout the country have been cancelled in respect of the events.

Skywatch Friday

This is the view from a Dutch train between Amsterdam and Breda:

A statue in Breda, depicting William the 3rd:

A typical Amsterdam sight you might recognize from the postcards:

(Perhaps nog really a SWF-picture) My son on his bike in the town of Purmerend:

Skywatch Friday

An unfinished ferriswheel at Damsquare:

Canal next to my place, near sundown:

Sunset over my place under the sun:

Typical Amsterdam: a playground, appartment buildings and a canal:

Kinda weird, this building in the water:

Same building and lucky me: with helicopter and bird (can you spot it?):

Taxes

Is this about taxes?

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means—except by getting off his back. – Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910)

Bike

Not such a happy day today as my son's bike got stolen. We did "a Lance Armstrong" via Twitter and reported the incident to police and insurance. My son seems to be okay with it.

Skywatch Friday

The sun is about to set. Taken around the corner of my place under this sky.
Note the flying creatures on the left of this picture. Easier to see when enlarged.

The other day I was sipping a Guinness outside an Irish bar and took this picture of the church that was build to commemorate The Miracle of Amsterdam The original was destroyed in a fire and this church was build later on. I also happened to work here.

Too bad my camera doesn't work to well in the dark but it may give you an impression of how wonderful the sky can look over the canal next to my place

Same here. But this is what I saw when I stood at my front door last night:
The hook that's attached to a lot of Amerdam homes to aid with moving and a great moon.

From a bridge, less than a minute away from home I can see the Westertoren, the bells of which
gave poor German girl Anne Frank hope that one day things would be better and the world kept on turning
