On depression and reality

For an optimist the glass is half full, for an pessimist the glass is half empty. In the meantime others are just happy to have a glass in the first place. In other words: The same 'reality' can have a different meaning and different impact for different people.

While some are perfectly happy when they can feed their children and themselves, others have enough resources to last them and their children a couple of thousand years and still aren't happy.

Why is that? Maybe depression has something to do with it?

What are your thoughts on the subject?
