Fear!

"Just say what law enforcement tells you to do and you'll live.", seems to be the consensus in modern day USA. And most Americans comply and seem okay with tyranny. Because they are used to being constantly afraid. Afraid to lose their health care coverage. Afraid to lose their partner. Afraid to lose their money. Afraid to lose their job. Afraid to lose their status and afraid to lose their lives.

But constantly looking for the emergency exits in shops or while using public transport takes its toll.
Quite a large number of Americans seems exhausted constantly. Compare that to people living in France, Germany, Belgium or any other country in Europe. Where people - in general - seem happier than people in the US.

People nowadays - especially in the United States - seem to have trouble with processing and filtering: "What's more important: pleasing my boss or my child's mental health?" "What should I buy: food for a month or a gun to protect my family?"

Those in power made Americans afraid of strangers and terrorism. But why? Just look at the data:

Most abuse comes from people we know and trust, not from strangers. More people are killed by their partner than by terrorist attacks. Yet we fear terrorism more than a squable with a loved one.

Do you know what you're afraid of and why? Or are you afraid because you've been taught to be afraid?
