Jesus was not a Christian

Judging by how people looked in the Levant, some 2,000 years ago, it's not very likely Jesus was caucasian. The usual depiction of the famous jewish rabbi in Ethiopean artworks is closer to the truth:

and was created in 1940. Coincidentally a time in which looking 'Aryan' had become the highest ideal for some. Of course Jesus could absolutely not look like the people those nice, white, protestant nazi's were rounding up to be murdered.  

If Jesus was mostly depicted as non-white, would He still had had as many followers?

Since christianity didn't exist when He was born, it would have been impossible for Jesus to be a christian. Nonetheless - if He actually existed or not - He seems to have been a great teacher.
