What if archaeology replaced football?

Of course the game of football is very important. Millions of people watch it and a couple of million people play it. In The Netherlands alone the people (a population of 17 million) willingly pay 300 million euros each and every year just so the football stadiums can be maintained and security around the games can be paid for.

Some players make more than some countries! Take Arjan Robben. These days he makes 36,000 euros. A day. For playing a game.

Can you imagine a world where you don't hear something about the game of football (even outside the season!) for a whole day?

Suppose not football but archaeology is the talk of the day?
