Should we learn, forget or both?

Yes, it happened a long time ago and we should move on. But should we forget? Should we learn?

Recently a statue was removed from Central Park, New York. The reason: it was a statue of J. Marion Sims, the 'father of modern gynecology'. He was called a doctor but he performed his experimental 'surgery' exclusively on enslaved women. Without using anestesia. In modern days he would have been put in jail for torture. In his days he was celebrated for the progress he made in the medical profession. A bit like the 'doctors' in nazi concentration camps performing 'surgery' on jewish people.

In my opinion people like these 'doctors' should not be placed on a pedestal but on the other hand we should not forget about their atrocities. So, yes, they should be mentioned in History classes. But their lives and actions should not be celebrated.

What do you expect from your partner?

Of course you want a partner who lives up to your expectations. But what are those expectations exactly? And how can you expect someone to live up to undefined expectations? So perhaps first you should think about what you want in a partner before you blame them for not being exactly who you want them to be.

What are the traits you are looking for in a partner? Honesty? A straight nose? Love? Friendlyness? Good sex? Meaningful conversations? A fast car?

What's important to you and - equally important - have you ever considered what's important to your partner? Here's a free tip in case you want to find out: ask.

And before you put demands on your partner's behaviour, ask yourself if 'unconditional' love truly is what you want.

Don't trust social media

You look at Facebook or Instagram and go like...'Oh, wow! I want a life just like my favourite rapper/friend/vlogger.' Well, don't envy them because what you see in the pictures might just be far from the truth:

And you? Are you living the insta lie?



On social media we pretend to feel like we don't feel. Of course, when we meet an old classmate on the street we tell him or her the absolute truth about ourselves. Right? Not really. Of course: when interacting with other people we almost always pretend we are doing great and everything is tippety top! If we are lucky there are a few people around us who we feel we can be honest with. People we can really talk to. In person, via telephone or...via social media.

Harnassing the power of the sun

Traveling by train is often easier, cheaper and more environment friendly than traveling by car. In Australia they've taken the next step: a train that runs purely on the power of the sun.

We are running out of oil, coals is something from the old days so we simply must convert to alternative energy resources. Unless we want to go back to living in the Dark Ages.
