In front of him (a #ShortStory)

They didn't speak.
They didn't have to.
Because they knew.

Before he left, he pulled off
his black latex glove.
It didn't have fingertips
so it wasn't easy.

It was harder
to leave her behind.
Because she was running
in front of him

People should take us as we are! Right?

Because we want people to take us as we are, we won't ever make concessions to our appearance. We just feel very comfortable wearing ties and suits, high heels and fake smiles with unnatural teeth and dito buttocks we paid a lot of money for at a 'correction' clinic.

On one hand we want people to take us as we are, while on the other hand we put a lot of time, effort and money into creating a living and breathing avatar of ourselves.

Apparently more money goes around in the make-up- than in the oil-industry.

And that's 'normal'. Of the thousands of people who know me and who I know, just a handful seem to get away with not caring about how they appear to be to other people: if they get invited for a ballroom dance at the queen's palace, they still wouldn't shave, shower or change their slippers 'because this is who and what I am' and if they feel like shaving and wearing a suit, they will. Even when working at a construction site.

And everybody lies on Tinder. And is surprised to attract people who don't match 'the real them'. I once wanted to ask a female friend: 'If you want a guy to be attracted by the real you, why do you use a photo filter that hides your wrinkles, lie about your age and profession and publish a close up of your cleavage? You said you want a man who falls for your humour and intellect. Are 'humour' and 'intellect' the names you gave your breasts?

'I'm always nice to the men I meet via Tinder and have sex with. I even make them coffee the morning after! But still they quickly abandon me and I don't know why!'

Perhaps someone should tell women like in this example honestly: 'Well, you present yourself as a desperate woman in her mid 40s who just presents her looks. So you attract men who are simply looking for a cheap prostitute. And you don't only give them free sex but even free coffee. As soon as you start a meaningful conversation, they run.'

Personally I think it's a shame when people mistake sex for love.

What are your thoughts on this?

Play with her (a #poem)

"Life is a game", she told him.
"We are all forced to play
and no matter how good you are,
in the end it's 'game over'
for all of us.
And no one can insert a new coin."

He agreed.
But didn't care.
As long as he could
play with her.

Why are some people lazy as well as impatient?

Once I started noticing the pattern, I asked around. Only to be confirmed in my suspicion: The most lazy people are also the most impatient.

Most lazy people are afraid. Afraid to be wrong, to be rejected, to fail...here's an article (click) on that. Usually they also lack confidence. In itself that's okay, of course. We all are lazy and/or lack confidence at times. But I think it's a shame when people are troubled by their own behaviour all the time because it keeps them from discovering their potential. So, they need help to change their behaviour. Unfortunately - and perhaps you guessed it - they 'don't have the time' to change or listen to advice.

Before you think: this guy hates people who are lazy and/or impatient: I don't. As a matter of fact, here's an interesting article (click), explaining that laziness and impatience can actually be good traits. And here's a nice quote I found:

'Whenever we are stressed in life, or stuck at something difficult, we start feeling lazy, tired and sleepy. And then the urge keeps getting stronger and stronger. Why run away? Fulfill the urge, sleeping won't kill you, sleep as much as you can, until your body craves for getting up' (credit: the mother of Anubhav Jain)

======================================
An example: Lazy and impatient people seldom change their bedsheets because they 'don't have the time'. Also they don't have time to set up their new phone. They dó have the time to complain - even months after their purchase - that the settings are not to their liking and that they don't have the time to change said settings. When you tell them it's really not that hard, as long as you take a few minutes to read the manual, they get angry: 'Do you really think I have the time for that!? That damn phone should come with my favourite settings, just like I had them on my old phone!'

Don't make the mistake of telling them that these days it's not really difficult to transfer the settings from your old phone to your new one. At least with Android. I don't know how that is for iPhone users. Protip: Only give the impatient person further advice when you like hospital food.

When they use a computer program they have never used before, they panic: 'Where do I get the time to learn all this!?' 'What, for example?', you could ask gently. 'Well, how do I edit a picture in this picture editing software program?' 'Do you see that large button on your screen that says 'edit'?' 'Yes, of course! Do you think I'm blind?!' 'Well...what do you think that button does?' 'How am I supposed to know? I've never worked with this program before. And (sulking and stomping their feet) stop treating my like a little child that doesn't know a thing and you have to explain everything to!'

(Don't say what you actually want to say at this point! And certainly don't laugh in your friend's face. Big mistake. Really. Don't do it) 'Perhaps if you'd take a bit of time to read the manual or at least take a minute to look at what the different buttons say...' 'Out of my sight! You're not my friend anymore! How dare you think I can find the time to do all those things! You don't know how busy I am!'

'Er...perhaps you could take an hour off the twelve hours you daily spend in bed? Watch a bit less Netflix than six hours a day, re-watching the same series over and over again because you have already seen them all?'

'Out of my sight, I said! I don't have time to listen to your nonsense and now I need a couple of hours doing nothing to recover from all the mean things you said to me!'

'What mean things did I say to you, my friend?' 'I won't repeat them because they hurt me too much. You're just like the lady in the supermarket this afternoon (really lazy people are seldom seen in supermarkets in the morning) who told me I should stop pushing her. But she was holding up the line and made me waste two whole minutes waiting for her groceries to get scanned. The b*tch! So yeah, of course I pushed her. And I am entitled to do so because in the past people hurt me so now I'm allowed to hurt other people.'

'But...'

Have you also noticed that the most lazy people are also the most impatient (and, perhaps surprising, also some of the most intelligent)? Or is it just a coincidence in my network of a couple of hundred people, including a dozen or so lazy as well as impatient people? Interesting thing I also noticed: people who are extremely lazy and impatient, hardly ever have longlasting romantic relationships. Or even work relationships. Why do you think that is? And do you know of any lazy as well as impatient people in your network? Can you consider them to be friends? Perhaps you are a lazy and impatient person and would like to share your experiences? Although I doubt that, because you probably didn't have the time to read more than the title of this blogpiece.

By the way: if you are (or think that someone is) lazy, be careful jumping to conclusions: the experienced laziness may be a symptom of a depression (click).

Expected (a short story)

He remembered her from the time when she used another name
but the smile she wore was still the same.

He could not remember exactly how long it had been
since he last saw her but he did know that to this day
every now and then her face would pop up in front of his mind's eye.

Hesitantly they sought to reconnect but the distance in time
was almost impossible to bridge.
As if bracing against strong winds
he drew closer to her heart a little at a time.

Suddenly she took the last few steps
and thus suddenly released the pressure in him.
He stumbled, did not fall and regained his balance.

He had to turn around to see who caught him.
It could have been many different people
but to see her here was something
he had not expected.

Who gains from chaos in US politics?

Watching what is going on in US parliament is like watching a Netflix comedy. But the script would get rejected because it's too unrealistic: 'A gay, jewish, Latina criminal who escaped prosecution by fleeing from Brazil to the USA who stole his ex-boyfriend's phone, sleeps on his sister's couch because he got kicked out of his own place because he couldn't afford the rent but mysteriously and suddenly had a few hundred thousand dollars to fund a political campaign? Come on! Who would believe that?'

As we all know by now, being able to lie as easily as you can breathe and suddenly getting a lot of money from undisclosed (click) but probably foreign sources is a big plus to make it to the top of the hierarchy within the current Republican Party.

Meaning George Santos (click) is their perfect poster boy.

The only spanner in the works is George's (if that is actually his name. He lied about so many things. It's hard to tell if anything he states is real) lie that he is 'a proud American Jew!'. Actual jews within the Republican Party don't take too kindly to his lies about his 'jew-ish' background and want George Santos removed from office. Probably from the planet.

There are also some two dozen Republican Senators who strongly oppose bipartisan politics. They hate seeing Democrats and Republicans working peacefulluy together to help the American people. Like when President Joe Biden and Republican leader Mitch McConnell worked together on better infrastructure and re-opened the Brent [Spiner] Spence Bridge (click). As a show of force and to make people aware you can accomplish more if you are only willing to work together.

Contrary to the members of the House Freedom Caucus, a group with around 40 members. This group includes Senators like Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert. Mr. Gaetz has already admitted that he doesn't care if the current chaos leads to a government being unable to work and the Republican Party to fall apart. One can't help to wonder: are that really his words or is it simply the objective from the 'unknown but probably foreign' (click. Why are these politicians pro-Russia?) sources that pay for his luxurious lifestyle? Or do Matt Gaetz' (click) handlers have pictures and videos of him having s*x with minors?

Interesting fact: Republicans receive over four times more in donations from oil-companies than Democrats.

Do you think politicians should be paid by the people they should work for, or by large companies they seem to work for?

The old Town (a circle #poem)

Walking around the old town
he felt the memories
of the town and its people
and of his own lost love.

Here was the bridge
where they stopped
for a romantic photoshoot

And there was the shop
of an old friend,
now home to a place for tourists.

Along the way he spoke to people
he thought he knew
and on his way home
he simply smiled, thinking of this day,
walking around the old town.

Climate predictions

"Look, none of those climate change predictions came true so it's a hoax to scare us all!"

Isn't it great scientists made all these predictions about acid rain, the ozon layer, the Great Barrier Reef and so on, so worldwide efforts could work to prevent disasters?

Recently it came to light that the scientists at ExxonMobil knew (click) in the seventies, realised that the oil-, coal- and gas industry was responsible for (the consequenses of) rapid climate change. ExxonMobil directors have not been jailed and the company has yet to be fined for deliberately witholding information that could be crucial to the survival of the human race (and that of trees, whales, birds and those cute little baby otters). Why? I'm guessing because the politicians that should punish ExxonMobil (and most likely others in the same industry) are literally paid (click) by the fossil fuel lobby.

As a matter of fact: the US Secretary of State under Donald Trump was also the CEO of ExxonMobil.

For those who still wonder why so many oil pipelines suddenly got permission to be build, even at the cost of sacred Native American lands. It's almost as if older, rich white men (I don't see many others in this group, do you?) don't care about the future, the planet or other people.

============================
That damage to the ozon layer and The Great Barrier Reef is not as bad as predicted is known as the self-defeating prophecy, also known as 'the prophet's dilemma': If you warn people for a disaster, they can take measures adverting it and you will be known as a false prophet. Very similar to climatologists who predicted many parts of the world would possibly be uninhabetable by 2020.

Were they wrong? Not really; because scientists predicted floods, cold fronts and heatwaves, governments were prepared to save (some of) their citizens. So they raised dams, invested in wind energy, asked people to grow plants in their gardens instead of tiling them all up, stimulated electric driving, et cetera. 'See, no disaster!'

Not yet. The danger still lurks and instead of using billions to bail out billionaires who made mistakes with their investments, trading shares in oil companies and supporting war efforts,

perhaps it's time the people realized we all have one single common enemy: rapid climate change.
