This American couple seems to be pretty sure they were brainwashed.
But got deprogrammed when they moved to Europe. Specifically France. They started to question the concept of 'Freedom'. The US version versus that of actual democracies. In the US most people who want 'Freedom!' want the freedom to be free from consequences, to do as they please.
This couple puts in a a broader perspective: "Americans want 'the freedom to...(carry guns, buy a bigger car, be r4cist 4ssholes), while Europeans want 'the freedom from...(bigots, dictators, dependency on money).
Generally speaking: Americans want their freedoms to trump (...) those of others, while Europeans strive for everyone to feel free.
Example: Europeans want affordable healthcare for all, while (millions. But not all) Americans only care about themselves:
